The Laws of Lifetime Growth by Dan Sullivan & Catherine Nomura - Book Review

The Laws of Lifetime Growth

Always Make Your Future Bigger Than Your Past

By: Dan Sullivan & Catherine Nomura

Published: Oct 22, 2007
ISBN: 9781576754672
Format: Paperback, 129pp
Publisher: Berrett-Koehler Pub

People tend to look backwards rather than forward, and focus on bad experiences instead of using them as springboards for growth, write Dan Sullivan and Catherine Nomura in their insightful book The Laws of Lifetime Growth: Always Make Your Future Bigger Than Your Past. By placing the emphasis on rewards and applause, people miss the opportunity to help others and the shared growth that results from cooperation.

Catherine Nomura (photo left)

Dan Sullivan and Catherine Nomura describe ten laws of lifetime growth, that form a holistic vision, for building a brighter future. Taken together, the laws are not only life changing for the individual who makes the commitment to a bigger future, but for those whose lives are touched as a result. The bigger future is all inclusive and revitalizes and regenerates everyone involved with the creative process of a better future. Regardless of a person's age, health, or financial status, there is a brighter future and it's in your hands.

The authors provide real life examples of brighter futures, and present some surprising results. Not only is the change part of the person with the original vision's life, but change touches every person who comes into contact with that individual. Some of the results are startling in their life altering power. People given little time to live, severe financial difficulties, and health challenges can find their lives transformed by daring to dream of a bigger future. Their vision, in turn, creates a brighter future for other people in their lives. Like ripples on a pond, the circle of bigger futures grows ever larger.

Dan Sullivan (photo left)

For me, the power of the book is in its practical application of the laws presented for changing one's life. Instead of simply presenting theory, and some self help philosophy, the book shows how to ask the right questions, and take the first steps, to achieving the goals. In fact, the emphasis on goal setting, and reaching them through enjoyable small steps, demonstrates the strengths of the concepts. The laws are readily applicable for anyone in any situation and time of their life. The book challenges a person to dare to dream and discover creative means of building a better tomorrow.

I highly recommend The Laws of Lifetime Growth: Always Make Your Future Bigger Than Your Past by Dan Sullivan and Catherine Nomura for anyone who is willing to take the steps toward a future greater than their past. It won't be easy, and some of the laws may be unsettling at first, as they demand you examine your life in new and exciting ways. The journey to that brighter future makes it all worthwhile for everyone whose lives you touch along the way.

Read The Laws of Lifetime Growth: Always Make Your Future Bigger Than Your Past by Dan Sullivan and Catherine Nomura and you will take those first empowering steps toward changing your life forever.

Stomp the Elephant in the Office by Steven Vannoy and Craig Ross - Book review

Stomp the Elephant in the Office

Put an End to the Toxic Workplace, Get More Done and Be Excited About Work Again

By: Steven W. Vannoy and Craig W. Ross

Published: Jan 15, 2008
ISBN: 9780979376801
Format: Hardcover, 324pp
Publisher: Wister & Willows Publishers

A toxic workplace where poor behaviour, attitudes, and dysfunctional activities are compared to an elephant in the workplace by Steven W. Vannoy and Craig W. Ross, in their ground breaking book, Stomp the Elephant in the Office: Put an End to the Toxic Workplace, Get More Done and Be Excited About Work Again. The authors provide the tools needed to turn an elephant infested office into a productive and high performance organization.

Craig Ross (photo left)

Steven W. Vannoy and Craig W. Ross recommend what they call a Wellness Culture as the goal when removing the disruptive forces that dishearten employees, and that lower productivity. By changing bad attitudes, and the personality issues that affect all members of the organization, the company can refocus its time and resources to achieving excellence in the workplace. Beginning with the premise that both individual and organizational goals can be met within the improved company culture, the authors provide the tools to achieve a more functional workplace.

The authors make it clear that anyone in the organization can act as a cultural change agent. In that sense, the book is empowering as every employee has the potential to take a leadership role in removing the elephants that create a toxic workplace. They recognize that people want to achieve greatness in their work, and to feel as if they make a difference. The book provides the practical and common sense tools to reach that potential within the company.

Steven Vannoy (photo left)

For me, the power of the book is two fold. First of all, the book provides the step by step techniques for developing an elephant removal process. By following the methods recommended in the book, any organization regardless of size or sector can achieve powerful results. More importantly, those enhanced results are achieved by ensuring that individuals can improve their personal job satisfaction as well. That joining of personal and organizational goals, for the benefit of everyone, is crucial to making a positive cultural change.

The second power of the book is in its personal empowerment. Anyone can take the initiative to make positive change within the organization, and achieve positive results. Leadership does not have to be handed down from on high, but can work upwards from the front lines of the company. That ability to make cultural improvements, on a personal level, will develop longer lasting cultural changes and greater productivity.

I highly recommend Stomp the Elephant in the Office: Put an End to the Toxic Workplace, Get More Done and Be Excited About Work Again by Steven W. Vannoy and Craig W. Ross for any business that is serious about improving their workplace behaviour and removing the toxic activity that prevents the organization and its people from reaching their fullest potential.

Read Stomp the Elephant in the Office: Put an End to the Toxic Workplace, Get More Done and Be Excited About Work Again by Steven W. Vannoy and Craig W. Ross and remove the elephants from your office that are holding your company and its employees back and destroying their productivity.

Executive Coaching For Results by Brian Underhill, Kimcee McAnally, John Koriath - Book review

Executive Coaching for Results

The Definitive Guide to Developing Organizational Leaders

By: Brian Underhill, Kimcee McAnally, John Koriath

Published: January, 2008
ISBN: 9781576754481
Format: Hardcover, 188pp
Publisher: Berrett-Koehler Publishers

Executive coaching has come of age, and is now an integral part of a company's leadership development process, writes Brian Underhill, Kimcee McAnally, and John Koriath, in their important book
Executive Coaching for Results: The Definitive Guide to Developing Organizational Leaders. The book provides a comprehensive guide for using coaching to develop talent and to demonstrate its positive impact on the organization's bottom line.

Brian Underhill (photo left)

Instead of taking the how to coach methodology of most books on the topic, the authors take an overall strategic approach to coaching. The resulting definitive textbook on leadership coaching within organizations is valuable for companies of all sizes, and across most industry lines. A balanced approach is taken to the new importance of executive coaching, including the necessity for encouraging the growth of a culture of coaching. The buy in for top management is in the form of how coaching can enhance the business profitability.

Kimcee McAnally (photo left)

Instead of writing a book on how to coach, the authors chose an overall technique that is inclusive and ongoing for the organization's future. Recognizing that coaching is a continuous process, the writers demonstrate how and why coaching can and should be part of any company's management development strategy. The book is about finding and measuring results, and therefore coaching becomes a crucial part of the management team. With existing leaders as coaches, and by better understanding of the coaching process, the entire corporate culture can be transformed to one of continual development.

John Koriath (photo left)

For me, the power of the book is its emphasis on coaching as part of the profit building process. As leaders develop, their management skills strengthen over time. These valuable qualities can then be passed along to the next generation of the company's leaders. By building the coaching aspect into the organizational culture, and measuring its impact, the best employees are retained and the company's profits expand accordingly.

I highly recommend Executive Coaching for Results: The Definitive Guide to Developing Organizational Leaders by Brian Underhill, Kimcee McAnally, and John Koriath, as the definitive textbook on coaching for measurable results in both the company leadership and on the organizational bottom line.

Read Executive Coaching for Results: The Definitive Guide to Developing Organizational Leaders by Brian Underhill, Kimcee McAnally, and John Koriath and make leadership coaching part of your successful business.

Joan Stewart: The New Rules of Press Releases - Blog Business Success Radio

BlogTalkRadio.com

Publicity expert Joan Stewart, aka The Publicity Hound, describes the new rules of press releases, and how to write them for consumers, and not only for journalists to boost your business success.

Joan Stewart is my internet radio show guests on Blog Business Success; hosted live on Blog Talk Radio.

The show airs live on Thursday, February 7, at 8:00 pm Eastern Time; 5:00 pm Pacific Time.

If you're writing press releases primarily for journalists, you’re missing a huge opportunity to target consumers. That's because over the last 10 years, most of the rules of press releases have changed. We no longer write press releases only for journalists, but for consumers who are using search engines like Google to search for information online. Press releases can pull traffic to your website, and consumers can enter your sales cycle, even if journalists think your release isn’t worthy of their time and attention.

Publicity expert Joan Stewart (photo left), aka The Publicity Hound, knows dozens of companies that are doing just that. Some of them never get media attention for their releases. But that’s OK. The releases are targeting consumers who end up buying a company's products and services. As a newspaper editor, Joan accepted and rejected thousands of press releases.

You will learn:

Why most of the rules of writing press releases have changed, and why this is a huge benefit to companies like yours

3 questions to ask yourself before writing your press releases...if you don’t know the answers to these questions, you’re just wasting your time

The 6 elements of a great a press release, including the three elements that many people mistakenly skip because they don’t know any better

Why your press release doesn’t have to be about anything newsworthy…that’s because you aren’t writing it only for journalists

Why your press releases no longer have to be limited to one page…and how to use all that extra space to really promote your business

Why a pile of clips from newspaper and magazines is the worst way to judge the success of your press releases…you’ll learn what really counts!

How to write press releases for the search engine spiders…the more spiders that find your releases, the more humans will read them

The importance of keywords, and where to place keywords within your release so the search engines can find them

A major mistake companies make when choosing keywords and the one keyword phrase that’s a big waste of space

The best press release distribution services that will give your releases the greatest online exposure

The dirty little secret about those "free" press release distribution services, and what you must know before you consider using them

Opportunities to write press releases…you don’t even have to think creatively because Joan has done all the heavy lifting for you

The one thing you must do before you start writing press releases…skip this step and most of the traffic that you pull to your website will be worthless

Where to learn more about how to write and distribute press releases online

...plus, we’ll leave plenty of time for your questions.

Listen live on Thursday at 8:00 pm Eastern, 5:00 pm Pacific time.
