Family Picnic up at DesertLight Journal

The first ever Family Picnic is live at Trudy Schuett's DesertLight Journal blog.

While entry levels for the initial Family Picnic are modest in number, Trudy has a number of volunteers lined up as hosts for future editions of the Carnival.

Entry of a blog post into any one of the various internet Carnivals is great publicity for your blog. If a wider audience isn't a concern of yours, perhaps simply the opportunity to have more people read of your experiences and quality of writing, might be of more interest to you.

In any case, to become part of the next edition of Family Picnic, and even a future host, the necessary information is available at DesertLight Journal.

Next time, don't let the ants frighten you away from the Family Picnic.

In the meantime, stroll on over to the DesertLight Journal hosting of the first ever Family Picnic.

Business from your blog

Getting business and clients from your blog is a goal of many business bloggers.

In that scenario, the blog serves as a client and customer magnet, attracting business as a result of the image and impression created through the blog posts.

The company image and the personal impression, developed through the blog should be positive messages. The goal is to appear personable, yet professional and capable of getting the job done.

The use of a blog for professionals, including lawyers, real estate professional, finance and market analysts, accountants, computer and technological experts and other computer related businesses is ideal. As a means of placing a real person in those often intimidating professions, there is little that can surpass the power of a business blog.

In my areas of search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM), I can discuss the various aspects of the process and the goals of both practices.

Search engine optimization and marketing are, in their most basic sense, attempting to provide a website with greater visibility. Instead of letting a business be placed in the vast internet ocean of sites, the search engine optimization professional attempts to find that site like a ship on radar. Instead of being lost at sea, the website becomes easily located in the search engine rankings.

Search engine marketing is simply a series of ideas and methods of developing more sales from a website via the internet.

My preference with my clients is to provide easy to understand, yet very powerful and effective concepts, for both SEO and SEM. I like to demystify the process and help the client to fully understand what we are trying to accomplish. Through our combined efforts, we are able to achieve greater success.

My blog is a powerful magnet for many SEO and SEM clients.

After all, what better advertisement for the power of blogging for a business, than having your own blog as a demo.

I am sure that your blog gets you extra business as well, regardless of the industry.

Blogs build business, the fun and easy way.

That is how I like to work.

By making it all fun and enjoyment.

Bloggers for interview subjects

Bloggers get interviewed.

It's a growing trend everywhere. We see bloggers interviewing other bloggers on a daily basis.

Some bloggers, like Darren Rowse of Pro Blogger are actively seeking professional bloggers to interview for ideas and revenue generation experiences.

Several blogs feature blogger interviews as a regular part of their blog's program, as a series.

There is also a trend toward bloggers appearing on radio, as the fast growing internet Blogosphere Radio clearly demonstrates.

Of course, the real test, in the eyes of the mainstream, are the print and over the airwaves broadcast media. That is where the blog interview growth is already clearly noticeable.

Bloggers are being seen, read, and heard in the mainstream media.

As newspaper and magazine journalists discover the writings of bloggers, they are beginning to take the blog medium more seriously. While the attitude change is not happening as rapidly as many bloggers would like, the mood is indeed shifting.

Bloggers are becoming mainstream.

We hear bloggers discuss our craft on the radio. The immediate feedback that bloggers can provide, makes us ideal for the high speed of radio journalism.

We will soon be seeing bloggers are regular panelists on political and business television programs.

As soon as bloggers become entirely mainstream, Gordon Smith of Conglomerate won't have to be forced to endure the same news story about blogs over and over.

That day is right around the corner.

Blogs are almost entirely, but not quite, ubiquitous.

Maybe in the next week or so, however, we will be.

Blog for success

Blog for success.

That sounds suspiciously like some self help book.

Hmmm...

The Umpteen Not Quite Secrets of Uber Successful Bloggers.

It has a kind of a ring to it.

Well...okay...maybe more ring around the collar than a gold ring, but I'm working on it.

In any case, bloggers are already more successful as a group and as individuals than many people think.

With over five million blogs tracked by Technorati, and frequent mentions pf blogging in most mainstream publications, blogs are a success.

That success is growing exponentially.

Bloggers are enjoying individual successes as well.

I'm not talking about the rich and famous or the A or B list bloggers.

Or even the Z list like me.

I am talking about you.

And your success.

As a blogger, you have proven that you can take on a project, and stick with it over a long period of time. In this case, the project is regular posting to your blog; often more than once a day.

By achieving that high level of committment to your blog, you have proven to the world that you can set a goal and reach it.

That lofty goal of maintaining a successful blog is not always evident at first glance. After all, every blogger has his or her own personal reasons for blogging, and differing results and expectations for the blog.

In any case, bloggers are highly successful people.

I have often maintained that bloggers are the ideal entrepreneurs and small business owners. The discipline required to keep writing regular blog posts is the same self starting skill needed to operate a successful small business.

It's time that you, as a blogger, began to think of yourself as a success; if you haven't already done so.

Bloggers can achieve almost any goal they set before themselves.

After all, they have already done so by writing in the blogs.

Bloggers are successful people.

Let's recognize that personal power. and utilize it in your business and personal lives.

Trudy Schuett talks blogging at The Blog Herald

Blog interviews are fast becoming a major component of many leading blogs.

They are starting to appear everywhere in the blogging community.

One of the leading proponents of the interview technique for blogs is Yvonne DiVita of the must read Lip-Sticking blog. If you haven't discovered her wonderful blog, dedicated to marketing to women, it's about time that you did. You've been missing out on some valuable marketing insights.

Each week, Yvonne conducts a Smart Woman or a Smart Man interview with a leading blogger; or with a business person who has used the power of blogging to enhance their online or offline business.

Well, the blog interview is expanding in scope, and in numbers of bloggers utilizing the technique.

Another tremendous and highly informative blogger interview made its appearance in the blogosphere today.

Duncan Riley of the valuable blogging news blog called The Blog Herald, has posted an e-mail interview with blog evangelist Trudy Schuett of WOLves, Food Basics, DesertLight Journal, The God Blog, Yuma Tech Consortium, and at least 4000 other blogs.

Well, okay, maybe only 1000 other blogs.

In any case, if you have missed reading any of Trudy's wonderful blogs, you are missing much of what is happening, in the way blogs can be used.

Trudy is always willing to experiment with new blogging styles, blog hosts, and concepts. The positive results she has achieved, in using blogs as a writer marketing tool, speak for themselves.

Trudy has proven, beyond any doubt, that the possibilities for blogs are unlimited.

Trudy is an unabashed proponent of blogs in all of their countless varieties. Her support ranges from the business blog for pure profit to the online diary for only friends and family.

And every other blog type in between.

Trudy discusses how she became interested...read obsessed :-) with blogging.

I love this form! Next to book-length fiction, this is my favourite kind of writing. More people are reading my work than ever before, even when I worked in hard copy. I have a lot of interests, and they’re so disparate it would be a real mess if I tried to get it all in on one place. Blogs give me a way to reach out to a variety of audiences.

She provides her well thought out reasons for supporting professional blogging.

Even the finest artists, sculptors, and writers have electric bills and other expenses, and very often they make money pursuing their craft. So there isn’t any reason why bloggers should be any different. Having no money associated with a project does not necessarily assign it nobility.

Those are only a sampling of the information provided by Trudy Schuett.

In fact, her advice for new bloggers portion of the interview, while too lengthy to quote here, is worth the click all by itself.

Thanks to Trudy for mentioning Blog Business World in her interview. I have been working with Trudy on a few projects, and continue to do so.

I am honoured to count Trudy Schuett among my many blogging friends.

Now, get over to The Blog Herald, and read and re-read Trudy's wonderful interview about the power of blogs.

Unemployed? Here is some help

Many very talented people are facing unemployment this year.

As a result of many differing economic forces, people have found themselves out of work, often through absolutely no fault of their own.

We want to get those people back to work as soon as possible.

All that's needed is a little help.

My friend, the very wise David St. Lawrence of Ripples, has written a must read post on getting back on the career path.

Written with honesty about the situation, and a genuine empathy with and concern for the person, David provides his usual sage advice.

Get networking! Talk to people.

David says:

If you are going to get a job and you were not top of your class from a nationally recognized university majoring in whatever is hot, hot, hot today, you will probably get your job through the recommendation of a friend, an acquaintance, or someone you just met at Starbucks or the neighborhood bar.

It doesn't matter where you find this person, what is important is that they know someone else who could use your services. It may take several tries, but you will find a job, when you do, through a referral. Not to knock headhunters, as I have known and used them, but for most of us the route to employment is through personal contacts.

Talk to everyone who you know, from family members to friends to business associates and former co-workers, to anyone and everyone you meet. You never know which key will unlock the door.

Try them all.

You will get a job if you are seeking one.

Your talent and desire won't keep you without employment for long.

Business blogs: Recommending them to others

Business blogs are powerful tools for any business to adopt.

Whether the company is a traditional bricks and mortar business, an online business venture, or both, a business blog can pay dividend for any business bottom line.

The benefits are numerous, ranging from improved search engine rankings, to better customer relations, to more effective public relations, to ever more powerful marketing. Blogging succeeds in all of these areas.

We all know that to be true.

What we need to do now, is spread the word.

As bloggers, we need to become missionaries for the concept of business blogging.

If you have business associates and clients, you should be recommending that they add a business blog component to their online marketing efforts.

I strongly advise my search engine optimization clients to add a business blog component to their websites. They will be live with their business blogs in the very near future.

One of my SEO and search engine marketing clients is considering more than one blog. How's that for getting the blogging faith!

The blog advantage is simply too powerful to pass up, for any business, even if they have never been online before, in any capacity.

I like to evangelize for business blogs on various internet business forums and message boards. Many very savvy business and marketing people, including many top notch search engine optimization experts post and read frequently on those boards.

Surprisingly, many are entirely unaware of the strength that a blog can provide for a website; or as a stand alone blog site in support of the business.

I post many times about the value of blogs. It's always necessary, it seems to me, to set the record straight when blogs are dismissed as "just being a diary".

As we all are aware, blogs have moved far beyond the teen angst and lovelorn lament stages. That message has still not reached the entire mainstream online community, however.

As bloggers, it's our responsibility to spread the word of blogs in general, and the various forms of business blogs in particular, to the mainstream population.

There are many blog myths out there, needing correction very badly.

The only people who can set the record straight on blogging is us.

The blogging community.

The ball is in our court. We have to tell everyone we know and then some, about the benefits of blogging.

I do it every day.

So can you.

Tell a friend about business blogging today.

The visitors aren't only bloggers anymore.

Readership is expanding to include the mainstream media, various government and private organizations, many businesses, and other interested people from beyond the blogging community.

Many people are introduced to some tremendous blogs that they might otherwise have missed.

Blog Carnival added to the family

The family of internet blog Carnivals has added a new member.

In fact, the Carnival relates to precisely that overall theme.

The Family Picnic is the latest addition to the blog Carnival midway.

It makes sense, as Carnivals are great entertainment for the entire family.

The Family Picnic is the brainchild of the busy and creative blogger, Trudy Schuett of WOLves and Food Basics.

She will be hosting the first ever Family Picnic Carnival on January 9, 2005 on her DesertLight Journal blog.

About the format and submissions to the Family Picnic, Trudy has this to say:

When I was growing up, Sunday was always Family day, so that’s the day it’ll appear. It’ll work the same as the Carnivals – send a recent blog entry by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time Saturday to picnic-at-desertlightjournal-dot-com

Please submit in this format:

Title of your Blog:

URL of your Blog:

Title of your post:

URL linking to that post:

Trackback URL, if any:

Description of the post:

The entry should be about any issue that impacts the family. This can be anything such as: marriage, divorce, parenting, domestic violence, education, etc. Essays from a personal point of view on these topics are also welcome. Please keep in mind this is not a contest! It’s a way for bloggers to share their ideas with readers outside their usual readership.

Trudy is also looking for volunteer bloggers to host future editions of the Family Picnic.

Since I'm sure you were looking to host at least one edition of Family Picnic, Trudy should have no problems finding hosts.

Right?

The e-mail to send those entries and to become a volunteer host is:

picnic-at-desertlightjournal-dot-com

Be sure to join the Family Picnic.

No ants in sight.

Blog Resolutions for 2005

Blog resolutions.

As most people know, resolutions are made to be broken.

Well, it's a good thing that no one takes them too seriously, then.

Here are some blog resolutions, that I hope everyone keeps in mind for 2005. Some of them are blogging best practices that more bloggers should adopt.

The rest are, well, resolutions, and for what most of us think of them, see above.

Bloggers should always link to their sources of information, rather than pretending the idea was their original thought.

Place a link to the blog post or internet article, right in your blog post. A second link to the original blogger's home page is always a nice courtesy, as it shares more of that blogger's writings with your own readers.

Resolve to write at least one new blog post every day. It helps in the search engines, and keeps your readers returning day after day.

Pledge to help other bloggers succeed with their blogs. We bloggers are really one big, although often dysfunctional family, and we should help one another.

Freely share your advice for writing better posts, getting more visitors, making a bit of money from your blog, and making your blog look more attractive with other bloggers. Think of the good karma you will build.

Link freely to blogs, new and old. If you like a new blog, be the first on your blog block to place a link to it on your blogroll.

Experiment with your blog posts. Write something entirely different from your regular information, thoughts, or ideas. Blogs are fun. Play with them.

Submit your blog to the various free blog directories. They give you a boost in the search engine rankings, and some new readers will find your blog that way. You might even make some new friends.

Make friends with other bloggers. They are some of the nicest people in the world. I have personally made many very close friends as a result of my blogging efforts.

Start a small business using your blog as a base. You already have the committment to write regular blog posts. You know that blogs will increase your visitor traffic. Put the power of blogging to work as a money maker for you.

Join with other bloggers in some joint business ventures. More heads and hands make for lighter work, and more revenue.

Write a funny blog post once in awhile. The laughter will do you and your readers a lot of good. You know what they say about laughter being the best medicine. Better yet, no needles to hurt, or yucky tasting semi-congealed syrup on a spoon to choke down.

Submit some of your best posts to the various internet Carnivals. They are a great traffic builder, and besides, you get to share your wisdom with more of the world.

Check your visitor logs to find what your visitors actually want to read about on your blog. The main search terms that find your blog, are what your readers want to see on your blog. Make them happy by listening to their wishes.

Nominate blogs and vote for blogs in the various blog awards shows. Your favourite blog can't win if you don't vote for them.

Finally, pick a blog or two at random from your blogroll once a month, and send them a e-card. You will definitely brighten their day.

Happy New Year bloggers.

2005 will be the year that blogs take over the internet.

Celebrate that you were in blogging on the ground floor.

Cheers!
